Not Just a Date
[Self Released]

by Andre

What does one get when one coalesce hypnotic vocals, heartfelt lyrics, vigorous strumming guitars and dynamic beats into one CD? “The Start Of An And” as what singer Dewi-Marie Vincoy chants in the first song off the EP. I beg to differ. I sincerely reckon it’s the start of an illustrious beginning for a band which has endured multiple changes to their line up.

Yes, thank your lucky stars, fellow local music advocates, for Marchtwelve have saved your ears from rotting. They are back with a whipping new 4-track EP that is no less worthy of your iPod.

Your power trip commences the very second you push the play button and will see your feelings swivel between anguish and defiance. All 4 songs reek of ingenuity and coupled with Dewi’s alluring vocals. One can expect nothing but pure ecstasy.

The opening track ‘The Last Letter’ has the words aggression and defiance written all over it and depicts an irate Dewi as she wails out “I gave it all for you! This is the start of an end!”. ‘Dear You’ is rather mellow, with lyrics directed at a failed relationship, clearly portraying the softer side of Dewi. But no matter how delightful those 2 songs are, both can’t be compared to their third song ‘Sequence: Repeat’. Its melody is hypnotically infectious than both their first 2 tracks put together and is, without a shadow of a doubt, their best song to date.

Marchtwelve have unquestionably upped the local music scene ante with the release of Not Just a Date and if given the right exposure and time, it is only inevitable that Marchtwelve find them in the fray, jousting for top honours in the local music arena. Contrary to what Dewi crooned in “Dear You” – “I guess this is goodbye”, it is clear that their latest EP indicates otherwise.
